A Day in My Life as a Medium
Depending on who you are, a day in my life could be described as interesting, exhausting, weird, freaky, or downright scary.
My life as a medium started as a young child. Even then, I sensed that I was not like other people, but as I grew older I realized I was very different than most people and even different from other “sensitives” (a catch-all term for highly intuitive people with psychic abilities) like me.
As long as I can remember, I’ve lived my life with one foot in the physical world and one foot in the spiritual world. At the age of five, I was fortunate enough to meet a little girl who became my close friend. Her mother was a woman named Rose, a very gifted medium among many other things. Rose became my first spiritual teacher and advisor on my journey as a medium. Our two families became very close and our parents became the best of friends. To this day she is still someone I seek out for advice and answers.
I’m forever grateful for Rose because she taught me how to use this gift and deal with the challenges that go along with it. I hope to do the same for others as my journey continues and help someone with similar abilities understand their gift or assist a parent in understanding how to support a sensitive child.
Sleepless in the Sunshine State
Imagine never getting a good night sleep. Ever.
As a child, I would constantly hear voices of multiple people calling my name at night and asking me to join them. It sounded like a huge party was going on in the background. I used to try to sleep with headphones blaring loud rock music to drown out the voices, often singing the same song over and over again in my head to distract myself and try to fall asleep.
Dealing with Noisy “Neighbors”
To this day, I don’t sleep well and I’ve accepted the fact that I probably never will.
Spirit activity continues to wake me up at night or keep me awake. It’s not that they are speaking to me per say; sometimes I just feel their presence or I hear them speaking to each other. Many times it’s my own spirit guides keeping me up, but I still need to (politely) ask them to take their conversation elsewhere so I can get some sleep.
Over the years, I’ve learned to set boundaries and have become better at tuning out my noisy “neighbors” at night. I also play meditation CDs all night long.
Too Close for Comfort
Spirits don’t just keep me up at night with their chatter. Sometimes, they take it to a physical level that can be unsettling to say the least.
Imagine sitting on your friend’s sofa and out of nowhere you suddenly “feel” like you have physically changed into another’s body. It is a very freaky experience and can scare the living bejesus out of you!
That example is only the tip of the iceberg. The sensation of having my body taken over by another person (or even an object) has happened to me several times throughout my life. I remember screaming for my parents in the middle of the night because I had suddenly turned into a 6 foot 4 inch German soldier while coming out of the bathroom. Thank God my parents understood and didn’t think I was crazy.
It’s difficult for me to “stay” completely in the physical world. I’ve been told by shamans and high priestesses that I don’t really want to be in my body. A piece of me is often out helping others or learning in another dimension.
Empathy: My Beast of Burden
At times, these experiences would frustrate me and I’d wonder if life would be easier without my unique abilities.
Being a “sensitive ” or empath, I can feel the pain and problems of the living as well as those on the other side. At times it has been hard for me to determine whether something belongs to me or if it’s another person or spirit trying to come through. This is because it will happen anytime, even when I’m not doing a reading.
Other mediums have advised me to shut down, close up, and set boundaries so this doesn’t happen. It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve learned how to function this way. What many mediums don ‘t understand, even after I tell them, is that I do all those things, this is why I say I’m different even among my peers and people like me. This is my normal and it has been that way ever since I can remember. My normal routine includes activities like grounding and centering exercises, which help prevent my sensitivity from becoming problematic. Closing my aura and chakras also minimizes interference, enabling me to go about my day feeling as normal as possible. I carry specific crystals to help me as well and amulets, charms, etc.
Dealing with the challenges of being a psychic medium is an ongoing learning experience. I hope by sharing my personal journey, I’m able to educate others as well as myself and be a support system for anyone seeking information or insight about paranormal issues.
Blessed be!
